L'Îlot des Palais is a cultural organization offering temporary and permanent exhibitions, as well as activities inviting visitors to stroll through Old Quebec.
The new Îlot des Palais exhibition focuses on the years following the rejection of Prohibition in Quebec, from 1919 onwards. While the U.S. and the rest of Canada were banned from the production, sale and consumption of alcohol from 1920 to 1933, nightlife was organized and expanded in Quebec. The exhibition highlights the players in this milieu, from musicians to bartenders and waiters. But part of this period of history is still visible in the streets of Old Quebec. So what can be done to enable visitors to discover this special heritage?
Invite visitors to continue the experience outside the museum
L'Îlot des Palais had the idea of creating an activity to complement the exhibition: “Nightlife in Quebec City”.
It's a telephone tour, in the form of the “Incroyables histoires” circuit. It allows visitors to discover the bars that have existed since that time. Participants wander freely through the streets of Saint-Roch and Old Quebec. At each point, a poster enhanced with a QR code and an NFC chip reveals more about the featured venue. Archival photos and texts provide all the information you need, and a map takes you to the next point. Quizzes complete the visitor experience.
